οἱ λίθοι κράξουσιν (Luke 19:40)
First and foremost I am a Christian. I am saved by the grace of God through the death of His Son Jesus Christ on the cross. My wife and I have 3 boys and currently live in Oklahoma. I grew up in a good Christian home and have developed a deep love for God's Word throughout my life. I believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God. That means that it is 100% truth and free from any errors or contradictions. A few years ago I began studying Greek and can get around the original text of the New Testament fairly well. I then began to pick up a little Hebrew to study the Old Testament. I'm convinced that the original languages add such a depth to a Bible study that cannot be gained from any reading in English. For study, I use the Logos Scholar's suite.
I began developing an interest in earth science in 9th grade and knew I wanted to be a geologist. I received a B.S. in geology from Millersville University in Pennsylvania and a M.S. in geology from New Mexico Tech. From there I went into the oil industry to work as a geophysicist in exploration projects around the world. The oil industry has access to countless square miles of 3D seismic data and well logs that allow a tremendously detailed picture of the earth's subsurface to be obtained. These data have reshaped my interpretation of earth history which has helped solidify my faith in a transcendent Creator.
I was a Young-Earth Creationist throughout my studies in geology and well into my professional career. It was not until I dove deeper into the earth's subsurface and deeper into God's Word that I realized that Creation had a more complex history than a simple six 24-hour day Creation Week that occurred 6,000 years ago would allow. Also, according to the data there was no way a year-long global Flood could account for all the geologic features present not only on the surface but also in the subsurface. So few people realize that buried beneath the surface is a treasure trove of clues with which we can piece back together the history of the earth.
I still see no evidence for biological evolution on a macro scale. Random chance cannot create life from non-life. Only a Creator can do that. The first appearance of man is also right in line with what the Bible says. There is no reason for equating old age with evolution. The two are not related. There is great evidence, however, that the earth evolves. There is great evidence that it is approximately 4.6 billion years old. While some people say it just has an "appearance of age", it does not. More importantly it has an "appearance of history". It appears to have undergone many events in its history that we can piece back together. Regardless of exact ages, there is no way the entirety of earth's history can be squeezed into 6,000 years. That does not contradict the Bible, it only reaffirms that we have a Creator who made sure everything was just right so that when we came on the scene, we had a habitable planet full of natural resources.
Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or comments about material you've read on this website, or if you would like to know more about the Bible or how to become a Christian. I will do my best to get back with you as soon as possible.
On the Bible page, I have put a number of resources that I have worked on over the years to hopefully help you out. Among them are two tests to see where you are at in your beliefs about subjects addressed on this site and Christian doctrine in general. Here are my answers to the Bible-Science Interpretation Testand the Theology 101 Test so there is no mistake as to what I believe and what you can expect to find on this site.
